Ghaziabad: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly thrashed by a mob, who suspected her to be a child-lifter after she was seen with a kid, in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.
In a video now gone viral on social media, the mob is seen mercilessly thrashing the woman, even as she cries and pleads to them to stop.
However, it has now come to light that the woman was in fact, the grandmother of the child. "The video which is going viral on social media platforms claim that the woman is a child-lifter. This is not true. In fact, she is the grandmother of the child. She went there with her grandson for shopping when people attacked her," Superintendent of Police (SP) Niraj Kumar Jadaun said.
Adding that strict action will be taken against those who circulated the video on social media, Jadaun urged citizens to inform the police about such incidents instead of taking the law into their own hands.
"Verify the news and sources before posting any content on social media," Jadaun added.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
