Woman commits suicide in UP, family alleges dowry harassment

A woman committed suicide in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The family of the deceased has alleged domestic violence and harassment in the name of dowry by her in-laws.

Muzaffarnagar: A woman hanged herself from the ceiling of her residence after being allegedly harassed for dowry by her in-laws in Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased has been identified as Rashmi. According to reports, Rashmi had married Sumit eight months ago and has been reportedly facing continued harassment in the name of dowry.

Following a complaint from the woman's family, the husband and her in-laws have been arrested on abetment to suicide.

According to police, they were arrested after her family alleged foul play and claimed that the woman was a victim of domestic violence for several months.

The incident was reported from Goela village on Sunday. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
