Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): After Congress MLA from Raibareli Aditi Singh slammed her own party over the migrant bus controversy, the party on Thursday said that they would approach the high court if the former's MLA status is not cancelled.

Speaking to reporters, Congress Legislative Party leader in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Aradhana Mishra said that Singh had violated the party whip last year, when she had attended the Assembly Session on October 2 against the party's will. "She was issued a show-cause notice and later a reminder was also sent to her, to which she has not replied yet," Mishra said.

She added that the party had also filed a request with the Assembly Speaker to disqualify Singh, which is still pending. "Quoting Justice Nariman's judgment which directed Speakers to decide anti-defection law petitions within a maximum of three months, we have once again sent a reminder to the Speaker," she said.

She added that the three-month period will be getting over in the next fifteen days. "If the Speaker decides in our favour, we will welcome it, but if not, we will approach the high court," she said.

Earlier yesterday, Singh on her personal Twitter handle had slammed her party for "fraud" and termed Priyanka Gandhi's proposal of running 1,000 buses to ferry migrants back to the state as a cruel joke.

Singh also said that it was Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who arranged buses to bring students back home from Kota where they were stranded due to the lockdown.
