Meerut: Police Inspector Amit Kumar, who is posted in Jaunpur, UP was demoted to sub-inspector for hiding cases against him during his promotion. Amit Kumar's wife Meenakshi, who is also a Head Constable in the UP Police filed a complaint to UP police DGP, citing false information provided by Inspector Amit Kumar while getting the promotion.
Inspector Amit Kumar has 14 cases on him including rape, bullying, and fraud. His wife found the cases on him after filing an RTI query and later complained to the Director-General of Police. Based on the complaint and evidence provided by the wife, the DGP has demoted the accused inspector from the post of inspector.

Amit Kumar, a resident of Pallavapuram police station in Meerut, was recruited as a sub-inspector in the UP Police. His wife Meenakshi is also a Head Constable in the UP Police.
According to Head Constable Meenakshi, his husband Amit Kumar was earlier posted in the Varanasi crime branch. During that time, a woman had filed a rape case against him also. She also revealed that there are 14 cases registered against Amit Kumar in various police stations including rape, threats and fraud.

Head Constable Meenakshi further alleged that Amit Kumar has deliberately hidden the cases filed against him while getting the promotion to the rank of Inspector from the Sub Inspector. According to Meenakshi, on 26 June 2018, she had complained to the DGP of Uttar Pradesh about her husband's exploits.
The DGP issued an order of investigation based on the complaint and the evidence found in the RTI. After the charges were found true, a case was registered at the Civil Line Police Station in Etawah district.
