Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a FIR against State President of Muslim Personal Law Board of India, Hafiz Noor Ahmed Raza Azhari for blaming Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the twin murders of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj earlier this month. An official said that the FIR has been registered at the Cybercrime Police Station, Lucknow.
Muslim Khan, in-charge of Cybercrime Police Station, Lucknow, said that after the murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf, Special DG Law and Order Prashant Kumar had given instructions to keep an eye on those who post “provocative posts on social media”. It can be recalled that Atiq and his brother Ashraf who were arrested in the Umesh Pal murder case were shot dead on live TV by three men while they were being taken by the police for a medical check-up in Prayagraj on the night of Apr. 15.

Khan said that following the directions by the Special DG Law and Order, Sub-Inspector Ravi Verma posted in the police station was tasked to keep an eye on social media. It is learnt that Verma reported a video on Twitter, in which the State President of the Muslim Personal Law Board of India, Hafiz Noor Ahmed Raza Azhari, is seen claiming that Atiq and Ashraf were killed on the orders by Yogi Adityanath.
According to the police officials, on the basis of this tweet, a case was registered against the accused under the IT Act for spreading hatred between different communities. Further investigation into the case is going on. In the video, Hafiz Noor is seen claiming that people of a particular community are being intimidated in the BJP ruled states.
Expressing displeasure over the killing of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf, he said that Atiq, who was a criminal, had also been an MP and MLA and it is the right of the court to punish the criminal. Noor said that the government has got Atiq and Ashraf killed with the help of shooters. Noor said that the Chief Minister had threatened to eliminate the gangster-turned-politician.
