Seven silver coins of Victorian-era found in UP

Seven silver coins of the Victorian-era were found while extracting soil from the mound in Mirzapur's Sonpur village on Thursday. After a quarrel broke out between the landowner and JCB driver involved in the extraction, leads to the seizure of all the coins by the local police.

Mirzapur: Police here have seized as many as seven silver coins of the Victorian-era that have been excavated while extracting soil from the mound in Sonpur village here on Friday.

Archaeological department officials at the spot

According to the reports, Moti Lal (owner of the field) was extracting soil from the mound with the help of a JCB on Thursday afternoon. At the same time, the coin of Victorian-era appeared in a clay pot. This became a subject of a quarrel between the JCB driver Chandan Yadav and the field owner Moti Lal.

Police seized the silver coins and handed it to archaeological department

JCB driver, who is also a nephew of the Moti Lal claimed the custody of the unearth pot citing he had found the pot first. While Moti Lal claimed, "Since, I am the owner of this field. So, you should hand over the pot to me."

Soon the quarrel turns violent, a large mob gathered near the spot.

Meanwhile, someone from the mob has informed the local police about the incident and within minutes the police have reached the spot.

Noticing the police, Moti Lal Cited another theory and said, "My grandmother Lakhwanti Devi used to have a house here, which had washed away during the 1936 floods. The flood also claimed the life of my grandmother. Probably this coin belongs to her."

Later, the police denied all his ridiculous theories and seized all seven coins. Subsequently, the police handed over the seized coins to the archaeological research, conservation and preservation of cultural monuments department.
