Aligarh: In an unfortunate turn of events, a violent clash broke out between Haryana farmers and Uttar Pradesh farmers over a land dispute on the banks of the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh's Ramgarhi border on Saturday.
According to sources, the incident occurred when scores of Haryana farmers tried to encroach upon a piece of land belonging to UP farmers and started farming on the land.
Some farmers of UP protested against this and clash broke out between two groups. Fumed over the incident some farmers opened blank fire, sources said.
In view of the tension in the area, Public Armed Constabulary men have been deployed on the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border. The situation was brought under control after police intervened, sources added.
Dispute often arises between the farmers of UP and Haryana over where the boundary between the two-state lies when the Yamuna changes its course from time to time, the police said.
