Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad detained a Tripura resident and seven Rohingyas, who were illegally traveling to Jammu, in Kanpur district on Sunday, officials said. An official said that the Rohingyas were detained by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) team from Kanpur city's Jhakarkati bus stand late on Sunday night.
The arrested have been identified as Subir Sabdakar resident of Tripura, Mohammad Zakaria resident of Jammu, Mohammad Shoaib resident of Myanmar, Noor Mustafa resident of Myanmar, Farsa resident of Myanmar, Sabkur Nahar resident of Bangladesh, Noor Habiba resident of Bangladesh and Razia resident of Bangladesh have been arrested.

An FIR has been lodged against all of them by ATS at Lucknow police station. ATS officers said that all the eight Rohingyas were traveling to Jammu from Tripura. Many Rohingyas were in contact with their members in Kanpur and Lucknow, an official said. ATS Deputy SP Sushil Kumar said that the Rohingyas were arrested during a raid following specific inputs about their presence in the area.
He said that the raid was carried out jointly by team of Kanpur and Lucknow ATS. Forged Aadhaar cards and other documents have been recovered from the arrested Rohingyas, Kumar said. He further said that the Rohingyas had first intruded into India from Bangladesh. They were on way from Tripura to Jammu where their relatives are putting up.
Pertinently, the National Investigation Agency had in Jan. this year detained a Rohingya refugee student pursuing Islamic education at Deoband Islamic seminary in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur. The NIA team, which had raided the seminary detained the unidentified Rohingya, studying at the seminary for a month at the time.
The Rohingya was said to be in possession of a valid card issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC), on the basis of which he was admitted in the Madrasa. The detained student was staying in a rented room in Mohalla Mahal area.
