Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh): A 17-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a man in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh following which the accused was arrested, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Sunday when the girl was sleeping alone in her house and the accused, identified as Chandrakesh Verma, entered her room through the terrace and sexually assaulted her, they said.

Hearing the girl's cry the neighbours rushed to her house and caught the accused red-handed.
Later, they called the police and handed over the accused, police said.
Following which the families of both the victim and the accused reached the police station where a tussle took place between the families on Monday.
While police tried to fix the matter Verma took advantage of the situation and escaped.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's mother on Monday against Verma, police sent the girl for a medical check-up.
