Jalaun (Uttar Pradesh): A 22-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district, after she was allegedly beaten up by a police inspector.
After the deceased, Nishu Chaudhary, was found hanging by a noose at her house, the family rushed her to the hospital but doctors declared her dead.
According to Nishu's family, she had gone to the market in Baldau Chowk on Friday afternoon.
As per reports, she along with her friends were brought to the Kotwali police station on Friday afternoon after shopkeepers at the local market accused them of stealing. They were handed over to their relatives after interrogation. The family members of the girl who died alleged that she was beaten up by cops at the station.
She was subject to mental harassment and torture by the cops when she was called again on Saturday and was stressed about it, the family alleged.
"She was very disturbed since the beating by the inspector," said a family member.
After Nishu committed suicide, her family went to the police station and created a ruckus, demanding action against the inspector.
On hearing upon the uproar, Circle Officer (CO) Santosh Kumar reached the spot and assured the family that the matter will be investigated.
