Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh): A police team from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly thrashed by villagers when they crossed over to Madhya Pradesh, reportedly in pursuit of gamblers.
According to reports, around 10 policemen from the Shahjahanpur police station in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district crossed over into Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
At around 3 pm, they reached Barcholi village under the Bhander police station limits, where they found a few people sitting outside under a tree. The cops reportedly accused the people of gambling and tried to take away three youngsters to Uttar Pradesh.
Amidst the ruckus, many villagers crowded at the spot, following which the cops alerted the police response vehicle. Seven more policemen then arrived at the spot from the Shahjahanpur police station.
According to reports, two of the policemen were in plain clothes.
The police allege that the villagers held two cops hostage, thrashed them, and even tore their clothes.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Rahul, the Circle Officer of Moth, said that acting upon information, the Shahjahanpur Police had gone to the Bajhera Village to round up the gamblers.
When gamblers saw the police approaching, they crossed over to Madhya Pradesh, he said, adding that the villagers opposed the police when they tried to arrest the gamblers.
Finally, on receiving an alert from the UP Police, the Madhya Pradesh Police arrived at the spot and brought things under control, he said.
Meanwhile, the incident came to light only after a video of the incident went viral on social media, prompting higher authorities to investigate into the case.
