UP: BJP candidate sparks row over her remarks on goons

Addressing an election meeting in Badaun, BJP candidate from Badaun Sanghmitra Maurya sought blessings of the voters and said she could become a goon for their dignity.

Badaun (UP): The Badaun Lok Sabha BJP candidate Sanghmitra Maurya on Wednesday sparked a row after she said that she can become a goon if anyone tries to threaten the voters of her constituency during the next month's Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing an election meeting in Badaun constituency, she asked people not to be afraid of some goons who try to bully during elections.

Maurya said that she won't hesitate to become a goon, if anyone tries to take advantage of the dignity and self-respect of the voters. She sought peoples' blessings before elections.

Sanghmitra Maurya is the daughter of seasoned politician Swami Prasad Maurya, who is a minister in the UP cabinet.

She is pitted against Dharmendra Yadav (SP BSP alliance) and Saleem Shervani (Congress) for the April 2019 General Election.
