A four-storey building collapsed in Kanpur as heavy showers lashed the city Thursday night. The fire brigade with the help of the army and SDRF recovered bodies from debris.

Kanpur: A woman and her daughter were killed after a portion of a four-storey building collapsed in Kanpur following rainfall on Thursday night.

The mishap took place in the Muganj Police Station area of the city around 9 pm.

The fire brigade team with help of army and SDRF recovered bodies from the building's debris after five hours.

SSP Kanpur Preetinder Singh said: "A woman and a girl were trapped under the debris. Police team, Nagar Nigam, SDRF and civil administration worked together to carry out this rescue operation for five hours. The bodies have been recovered. Further removing of debris will continue."

Meena stayed with her daughter Preeti and two sons on the third floor of the 100-year-old building.

The other residents evacuated the dilapidated building as the walls developed cracks after heavy rains in the morning.
