Bahraich: 'The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.' Somewhere along this line, Dr Balmeet Kaur has devoted her entire life to the service of specially-abled children.
Hailing from Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, Balmeet Kaur's selfless journey is an inspiration for many people.
Kaur's younger brother was deaf and dumb since birth, she was so moved by his plight that she decided to work for the betterment of many such children in the city.
To provide a respectable future for deaf and dumb children, Dr Balmeet Kaur is running a school since 1992. However, in the absence of any government assistance, the classes are being conducted under a tin shed.
According to Balmeet, people used to ridicule her for this decision, they used to discourage her by saying that such children cannot be made self-reliant by any means.
However, Balmeet was stern in her decision and was not deterred by any criticism. She also said that she has decided to remain unmarried throughout her life to devote complete time to this cause.
Balmeet has also pledged to donate her organs after her death just like her parents did.
She has also been felicitated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for her devotion to the cause of humanity. She has also been accorded the Rupayan award and honoured by various social organisations.
