Lucknow: Scores of migrant labourers of Telangana, who had been working at Uttar Pradesh's Sonauli area, have sought government help to return home.
According to sources, more than one hundred migrant labourers from Telangana working in Sonauli in Uttar Pradesh gathered in large numbers at Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University and Quarantine Centre, urged the UP and Telangana government to help them go back home on Sunday morning.
Most of them said that they did not get their salary for the month of April and were losing their stock of food. While some people have found means to go back through help from the government, several others have been using private transportation to head back, sources said.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, a migrant labourer named Md Saloni, belonging to Telangana, said: "The situation has not been the same since the commencement of the nationwide lockdown. I have not been able to make any money for my family since then. We are unable to live in this situation. Hence, we wish to go back to our native villages. Our contractor has not paid the salary for the work we did until March."
"We have not been earning any money since the announcement of the nationwide lockdown during mid-March as all the works came to a standstill. We are coming from Sonauli area of Nepal border and we are hailing from Mehboob Nagar of Telangana. We are requesting to the UP and Telangana governments to send us back home," Md Gum Shiya, one of the migrant labourers told ETV Bharat reporter.
In this regard, the quarantine centre official says that as soon as migrant workers get approval from their state government to receive the workers, buses will be arranged to take workers from Lucknow to Hyderabad. They have also provided food to them and they are taking proper care of everyone here.
