Sitapur: Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan, along with his son Abdullah Azam offered Eid prayers at Sitapur Jail with around 200 detainees today.
The jail administration made special arrangements for those who were fasting.
Jail Superintendent DC Mishra told ETV Bharat, "On this special occasion ensuring social distancing, all Muslim prisoners including Azam Khan offered prayers. Special food arrangements were made which included puri-vegetable and kheer."
Rampur MP Azam Khan, his wife and his son Abdullah Azam Khan, were sent to jail in February after they surrendered before a local court as their bail applications were rejected in connection with a case related to alleged forgery of Abdullah’s birth certificate.
Of 86 cases lodged against him, Azam Khan, who is also the chancellor of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, is facing 27 FIRs, over alleged land grab for the university’s expansion.
