Shramik Special passengers loot water bottles in Uttar Pradesh, video goes viral

A video of migrants looting water bottles at Prayagraj Junction in Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media. Authorities have been compelled to look into the issue and initiate an action to deal with such events in future.

Lucknow: A video of loot for water bottles at Prayagraj Junction is doing rounds on social media, thereby prompting authorities to take action amid corona-induced nationwide lockdown, a source said on Tuesday.

"A Shramik Special train had stopped by at Prayagraj Junction where migrants got down from the train in huge number and started looting the water bottles. In the video, these migrants can be seen subjected to lathi charge. While the probe is underway, officials responsible for being negligent will surely be penalised," Chief Public Relations Officer Ajit Kumar Singh added.

However, the state government has included food provision for migrants coming back to their home state in Uttar Pradesh, a source said.

According to reports, so far eight lakh migrants have been served food and provided help by the government officials.

"The incident that occurred on the Railway station is a matter of grave concern given the increase in the number of corona cases across the nation. The matter is being looked into and the culprit in administration will be found out soon," Ajit Kumar said.
