Meerut: In what appears to be a case of negligence, a noodle seller in Uttar Pradesh was handed a bill of Rs 1 crore and 82 lakhs by the electricity department.
Aas Mohammad Khan who lives in Meerut's Ashiana colony was shocked and says no one is willing to resolve the error.
"I went to the electricity department to get my bill for two months. I got the bill of Rs 3410. I went to pay the bill but the cashier handed over a bill of Rs 1 crore 82 lakh to me," Khan said.
"I am running from pillar to post to rectify the bill but no one is listening," he said.
Khan is not the only one, many across India have complained about exorbitant power bills that did match their usage. Recently, an electricity bill sent to a man in Hapur district was Rs 1,28,45,95,444 and a bill sent to a maid in Satna district in Madhya Pradesh was around Rs 1.25 lakhs.
