Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and one-year-old daughter on Sunday night and then staged a robbery in his home to mislead the police in Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The crime took place in Mohalla Chandmari locality in Sadar Kotwali area of the district on Sunday night. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mushtaq said the man, identified as Neeraj Kushwaha, had an argument with his wife Manisha (24) over his extramarital affair.
During the fight, Neeraj struck Manisha with a cricket bat, resulting in her death. He also allegedly killed his one-year-old daughter. In order to mislead the police, Neeraj decided to make it look like a robbery and inflicted injuries upon himself and ransacked his own house.
He then contacted a friend, claiming that a group of masked men had broken into his home, committed the murders and stolen valuables. However, the police grew suspicious after finding inconsistencies in Neeraj's statements and the absence of evidence supporting his claims of a robbery. During police questioning, the man finally confessed to the murders, revealing that frequent arguments with his wife over his affair had led to the killings.
The locals in the area woke up due to the screams of the victims and informed the local police about the incident. Soon after receiving the information, a team from the local police station rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Police took the two bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. Injured Neeraj Kushwaha was admitted to the district hospital for treatment but his statements remained inconsistent.
