Varanasi: Tej Bahadur Yadav, the BSF constable who was dismissed from the service in the year 2017 after he released a video on poor quality of food served to soldiers, is contesting as an Independent candidate from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Yadav, who reached Varanasi, earlier this morning, spoke to reporters at the Railway station and strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'false' promises.
"The Prime Minister says he will act against corruption, but the reality is that he is shielding the corrupt. This is the reason I decided to contest against him," he said.
"The ones who added 'chowkidar' before their name should now watch out because the 'real' chowkidar is here. The time has now come for all the 'fake' chowkidars to leave," he added.
Yadav said that winning was not his priority now, as his primary objective is to 'show PM Modi a mirror'. "Though he goes around and talks about soldiers and their sacrifices everywhere, in reality, he has done nothing for us," he said.
He said he will be campaigning door-to-door, as he does not have the resources like the bigger political parties. "The people will although vote for me, as the entire nation knows the truth," he said.
Yadav had posted four videos on the social media in January 2017 that showed him complaining about the unpalatable food at his camp along the Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir. The videos triggered outrage across the nation.
After the videos went viral, the BSF dismissed his allegations and later dismissed him from the service.
