Maharajganj: A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district while a hunt is on to nab the other accused, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Wednesday noon in a village under Shyamdeurwa police station area.
The girl went to a canal located outside the village when the two youths of the same village stopped her on way and took her to an isolated sugarcane field. They thrashed her brutally and sexually assaulted her following which she became unconscious.
"Few villagers saw them in objectionable condition and informed the family members of the victim. We have registered a case under POCSO Act on the complaint of the mother of the victim," said Sajwan SP Rohit Singh adding that one accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
