Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh): Sudhakar Chaturvedi, one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast, will be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mirzapur seat. Chaturvedi, who is currently out on bail, asserted that the government formed by the grand alliance would be fatal for the country.
Contesting elections on the ticket of Hindu Mahasabha, Chaturvedi was in jail for ten years with Pragya Thakur and Colonel Purohit.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "The main agenda of the election will be developmental works. Progressive work will be done in the field of bronze industry and tourism of Mirzapur. Someone who will contribute towards providing employment should be elected."
Announcing his candidature, Sudhakar said, "Congress gave birth to Malegaon, it was a political agenda which turned out to be a complete failure. Quoting terms like Hindutva, Saffron Terrorism etc., was a conspiracy to please Muslims. However, Muslims were not happy with them. That is why the Congress government lost power."
He further said: "I was in jail for 10 years. Currently, I am out on bail, the case will be discharged soon but the question arises that why I was in jail, despite being innocent?"
Sudhakar Chaturvedi is the resident of Hargarh village falling under Jigana police station area of Mirzapur. He hogged the headlines after the infamous Malegaon Blast occurred.
