Agra: A couple from Agra allegedly sold their newborn to the hospital as they were not in a position to pay medical expenses.
The district administration has sealed privately owned J P hospital following reports that it sold an infant.
A rickshaw puller had admitted his wife in this hospital as she could not be admitted to a government hospital because of lack of documents, sources said.
According to reports, the woman underwent C-section and gave birth to a baby boy and the hospital charged Rs 30,000 for the procedure and Rs 5000 for medicines.
Later, when the couple expressed their inability to pay the bill, the hospital allegedly forced the couple to sell their newborn for Rs 1 lakh.
However, the hospital authorities claimed that the parents donated the baby for adoption.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated and the hospital sealed. The District Magistrate has assured all help to the family as the child is still missing.
