Lucknow: The president of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha's Uttar Pradesh unit was killed by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men in Hazratganj area of Lucknow on Sunday morning.
Ranjeet Bachchan, a resident of Gorakhpur district was shot dead near Global park around 6 am in the morning when he was out for a morning walk with his brother Ashish Shrivastava.
According to police, Ranjeet was shot on his head while he was coming out of the Global park.
The assailants also fired bullets on his brother, who is undergoing treatment in the nearby trauma centre.
A police official said Ranjeet Bachchan (40) was killed in an area which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hazratganj police station.
He said the killing prima facie appears to be a fallout of some family dispute, but the police are investigating all possible angles.
Sources said that Bachchan was earlier associated with the Samajwadi Party.
This is the second murder reported in the state where the leader of a right-wing Hindu outfit has been killed.
Earlier, Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari was murdered at his residence in Lucknow by two people in October 2019.
