Banaras (Uttar Pradesh): Amongst the numerous ordeals faced by migrant workers - aggravated, owing to the coronavirus induced lockdown, efforts of an 11-year-old Tabare Alam, to transport his ailing father on a trolley-rickshaw from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar, has gone viral on social media.
The lack of proper transportation had reportedly prompted the boy to take up the daunting task of pedalling all the way, on a rickety three-wheeler, to their native village in Bihar's Araria district.
According to sources, the father-son duo had lost their source of income, overnight, and were left to fend for themselves without food or shelter. They could not travel back home, due to the unavailability of public transport. They further chose to travel in a rickshaw-trolley, as they could not get a vehicle after repeated attempts.
The video, which was first shared on the micro-blogging site - Twitter, went viral.
In the clip, Alam said: "We were based at Banaras, as my father worked there as a daily wager. After failing to get work during the lockdown, we decided to go to our native village in Araria district of Bihar. We could not get any vehicle to go back and I could not see my father suffering. Hence, we are travelling in trolley-rickshaw."
After hearing the heart-wrenching story of the child, the person who made the video reportedly offered them some money, sources added.
Such stories of the suffering of migrant labourers, undertaking long journeys on foot and with hunger pangs, have been a regular feature of lockdown woes, emerging from across the country.
