Ghazipur court to hear case against Mukhtar Ansari today

The MP/MLA court in Ghazipur is likely to hear another case of Gangsters Act against Mukhtar Ansari today.

Ghazipur: The verdict on gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in a Gangsters Act case is likely to be given out today. The case has been listed for hearing in an MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district.

Earlier, on April 19, the court had sought written arguments from ADGC Criminal that were presented in the court on April 27. After which, the court had listed the next hearing on today, said ADGC Criminal Neeraj Srivastava.

Ansari's lawyer said that in 2009, a case was registered against Ansari in Muhammadabad Kotwali and he was named as the co-accused. He said that his client was in jail at that time. Another murder case was registered against him in connection with the Kapildev Singh murder case at the same time under Karanda police station. Both cases were registered in 2009 and included in the gang chart. The government advocate had sought two-week time from court for presenting the written arguments. Following which, court had listed the hearing on April 27 which was postponed to May 6.

On April 29, the court had sentenced Ansari to 10 years imprisonment along with imposing a fine of Rs five lakh upon him. The case relates to his involvement in the kidnapping of Vishwa Hindu Parishad office-bearer Nankishore Rungta in 1996 and murder of BJP MLA Krishnand Rai in 2005. Mukhtar's brother former MP Afzal Ansari was also booked under the Gangsters Act and accused of murdering Rai. Afzal was sentenced to four-year imprisonment following which he was disqualified from Lok Sabha. On Friday, three arms licenses of Afzal were also canceled on the instruction of the district magistrate.
