Court awards death penalty in rape case in 23 days

गाजियाबाद कोर्ट ने ढाई साल की बच्ची की रेप के बाद हत्या के मामले में आरोपी को सजा ए मौत की सजा सुनाई गई है.

The case had come to light from Kavi Nagar area on October 21, when the body of the girl was recovered from bushes.

Ghaziabad: In a rare case of speedy delivery of judgement, the Ghaziabad court on Wednesday awarded death penalty to an accused in the rape and murder case of a two-and-half-year-old girl within 23 days after the first hearing.

On December 29, chargesheets were filed in the case and this 'historic verdict' came just on the 23rd day of the hearing.

The case had come to light from Kavi Nagar area on October 21, when the body of the girl was recovered from the bushes. 

Speaking to media, Circle Officer Avnish Kumar said that police had nabbed the culprits within hours after the case was registered.

He further said that this kind of fast judgement by courts will prove to be deterrent for offenders.

Meanwhile, Utkarsh Vats, the Public Prosecutor in the case, termed it as the landmark judgement.

Chandan, a friend of the girl's father, was arrested in connection with the case.

A case under various IPC sections and the POCSO Act was registered against him.
