Fake liquor racket busted by police in UP's Baghpat, 8 arrested

As many as eight smugglers were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district in connection with running a fake liquor racket. The police have also seized 12,000 litres of fake liquor.

Baghpat: Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat police busted a fake liquor racket and nabbed eight persons in this regard, informed the Police on Sunday. The police have also seized 12,000 litres of fake liquor and the arrested smugglers are residents of Baghpat, Shamli, Noida and Delhi, they said. The Baghpat police along with the Delhi police are also conducting joint raids in Delhi.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Singh said that the police have arrested eights persons as of now and also recovered lakhs of empty bottles, wrappers of various companies, holograms, etc. from their possessions.

"The police have also recovered a large quantity of extra neutral alcohol. The arrested smugglers belong to different cities in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. They were running their factory from Siraspur in Delhi. A lot of equipment along with liquors were recovered from the factory in Delhi," he said.

The SP further said that smugglers used to supply fake liquors using branded wrappers and holograms on bottles to Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana. He also said that further investigation is going on to know more about their supply chain.
