Jhansi: Phase three of 2019 Lok Sabha polls had witnessed many cases of EVM malfunctioning, following which a new back up plan has been prepared by officials in Jhansi constituency. Reportedly, if an EVM machine breaks down, it will be replaced within 20 minutes.
ETV Bharat spoke exclusively to district election officer Shiv Sahay Avasthi who has confirmed that during EVM breakdowns, polling would resume back within 20 minutes.
Security has been tightened at different poll stations to ensure smooth elections in the fourth phase on April 29. A team of engineers will check and verify the EVM machines before they are taken into the booths for the polls.
The backup plan is that the sub-divisional magistrates will be carrying extra EVMs with them so that if any EVM stops working they will be immediately replaced.
Every polling stations here will be provided with tea, water, etc. In case the hand-pumps in the station are not working, water in tankers will be provided.
Solar lights will be available at the polling stations. The electricity board has been informed to avoid power cutouts on the day of polling. Female security guards will be available for checking or brisking female voters.
