Varanasi: In a bid to ease the burden on police officials amid the coronavirus pandemic, a young techie from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi has developed a 'COVID-19 smart alert device' which sets off an alarm upon breach of social distancing norms and informs the cops via phone call.
Shyam Chourasia, who had earlier developed lipstick gun and earrings that fired bullets, innovated COVID-19 alert device to intensify surveillance against lockdown violators as it is the need of the hour.
The device which costs between Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 comes at a time when police officials are struggling hard to enforce lockdown and promote the habit of social distancing in order to contain the virus.
"As soon as the sensor detects more than one person standing at a place, it plays a warning tone and a sim card gets automatically activated, if they do not disperse within ten seconds. The sim card makes a call either to the nearest police station or 112," said Chaurasia, who has a penchant of developing new devices.
The device has turned out to be helpful in his locality as people are following social distancing rules after he had developed the device.
"I have installed one device in my lane and a warning tone plays whenever the device detects that more one person is standing at one place," he added.
