Agra: In yet another case of medical apathy in Uttar Pradesh, a pregnant woman was forced to deliver on the road, after the staff at the Primary Health Centre in Runkata refused to admit her on Wednesday.
According to the woman's husband Shyam, they had been visiting the Health Centre for the past three days, but the staff kept turning them away.
When Naina was taken to the Health Centre today morning, the staff allegedly demanded money to admit her.
Her husband Shyam then left her at the Centre to arrange for the money, but Naina started contracting labor pains, following which the staff reportedly asked her to go to the District Hospital.
Seeing the woman's plight, a few locals helped her deliver on the roadside, merely 50 metres away from the Health Centre. After the incident led to an uproar, the staff reportedly admitted the woman.
Reacting on the incident, Chief Medical Officer Dr Mukesh Vatsa said that the staff nurse was at fault. "It was the staff nurse's fault. She should have sent the woman on an ambulance to the district hospital. I will seek her suspension will transfer her soon."
"For better treatment the woman has been admitted at the SN Medical College, and both the mother and child are doing fine now," he added.
