More bodies pile up in Ganga river in UP

On Wednesday, about four corpses were reportedly found on the Ganga Ghat Panchmukhi of Gahmar, according to witnesses.

Ghazipur: The Gahmar region of Ghazipur continues to see dead bodies in River Ganga for the past three days. On Wednesday, about four corpses were found on the Ganga Ghat Panchmukhi of Gahmar. When an ETV Bharat team spoke to District Magistrate Mangal Prasad Singh on this matter and he said that only one body was recovered.

Corpses continue to pile up in Ganga for three consecutive days

However, the question arises that when the District Magistrate is saying a single corpse was recovered, where did all the dead bodies come from? The district and local administration along with locals have recovered several corpses from 11 pm in the night to 8 am in the morning. According to eyewitnesses, there were close to 70 to 80 dead bodies that have been recovered from the Ganges.

The ETV Bharat team spoke to SDM Ramesh Kumar Maurya, who said that the administration took the matter seriously and formed a team to recover the bodies between 11 pm and 8 am and cremated them as well.

In another development, seven more bodies were seen floating in the Ganga in the Ballia district of UP, taking the count of bodies found in this the district to 52, an official said on Wednesday. According to Ballia residents, at least 45 bodies were seen floating near the Ujiyar, Kulhadia and Bharauli ghats in the Narahi area on Tuesday evening.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, District Magistrate Aditi Singh had said some bodies in a decomposed condition were seen floating under the Ballia-Buxar bridge. She further said Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Rajesh Yadav and Circle Officer Jagveer Singh Chauhan are probing the matter and the last rites were performed with due respect.
