Crime Branch busted a gang that targetted American websites in Kanpur

The Kanpur police crime branch has busted a call centre that used to demand ransoms in dollars from American companies by hacking their servers. The gang used to seek ransom in exchange for releasing and restoring the data lifted from American websites. The crime branch has arrested three people including the gangster Mohinder Sharma. The people working in the rest of the call centres are being questioned.

Kanpur: The Kanpur police crime branch has busted a call centre that used to demand ransoms in dollars from American companies by hacking their servers. The gang used to seek ransom in exchange for releasing and restoring the data lifted from American websites. The crime branch has arrested three people including the gangster Mohinder Sharma. The people working in the rest of the call centres are being questioned.

This matter is reported from the Kakadev area of Kanpur, where Noida resident Mohinder Sharma had opened an international call centre. A Delhi-based company was also involved and provided an ISP gateway to the call centre. Together, both the companies used to leave a message after hacking the servers of big companies of America. The message mentioned the number of this call centre. People working for the call centre used to tell the amount and method of payment in lieu of releasing data to the companies. This way, the call centre used to demand 300-400 US Dollars. Once they received the payment and released the codeword of the server and the data was released back to the American companies.

The police have arrested Mohinder Sharma, Sanjeev Uttam, Jikrullah, and Suman have been arrested by the team of Crime Branch. The search for more people is going on, soon they too will be arrested.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Branch Salman Taj Patil said that the call centre running in Kakadev used to cheat American people. They used to hack the website by showing tempting advertisements and hack the system. Then money is demanded to release the data. Nearly one million dollars have been received. According to its Indian currency, till now 10 crores has been earned in this manner. The gang used to work from both Kanpur and Noida offices. They also hired young boys and girls during the lockdown and most of them are unaware of the fraud.
