Badaun (Uttar Pradesh): At least 22 cows died in a gaushala on Sunday and several others are battling for life in a veterinary hospital in Kachla town under the Ujhani region in Badaun.
The District magistrate said that cows died due to high nitrogen content in green fodder.
Green fodder for cows is sourced from neighbouring Kasganj district. About an hour after eating the fodder, the condition of the cows started deteriorating then 22 cows died on the spot.
The caretaker of the cowshed gave information to the police and administrative officials after the incident took place.
After getting the information, District magistrate Dinesh Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashok Kumar Tripathi reached the spot.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr AK Jadoun rushed the spot and called a team of veterinarians from Kachla, Ujhani, and Badaun.
Preliminary investigation revealed a high amount of nitrogen found in the fodder has led to the death of 22 cows.
