Lucknow: Deposing before a special CBI court in the Babri demolition case, BJP leader Sakshi Maharaj on Wednesday denied allegations of conspiracy to pull down the disputed structure and termed the issue as a political conspiracy to discredit BJP.
Speaking to reporters here, Maharaj said, " Due to political enmity, BJP, RSS and saints were deliberately targeted and cases were filed against them. At the time when everything happened in Ayodhya, I was present there but the case has been projected differently here."
"When Congress government was in Uttar Pradesh, we had kept the statues there and the Congress had laid the foundation stone there. We were falsely implicated and whatever decision will come out after this hearing, we will welcome the Supreme court," Maharaj said.
Notably, the court has been conducting day-to-day proceedings in order to conclude the trial by August 31, as directed by the Supreme Court. The court at present is engaged in recording statements of accused under section 313 of the CrPC, a stage in the trial which follows the completion of the examination of prosecution witnesses.
However, former deputy prime minister LK Advani, BJP leaders MM Joshi and Uma Bharti are already exempted from personal appearance till further orders.
