Anti-CAA, NRC activist Sharjeel Usmani arrested from Azamgarh

Sharjeel Usmani, an anti-CAA and NRC student activist who allegedly incited violence in the AMU over the issue in December last year has been arrested from his home town of Sidhari in Azamgarh.

Aligarh: Sharjeel Usmani, a student activist from Aligarh Muslim University, has been arrested from Azamgarh, official sources said.

They said the anti-CAA activist was arrested from his hometown of Sidhari in Azamgarh.

Usmani is charged with inciting students and creating unrest in the city in December last year when students were protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

A case was registered against him in a local police station here after the violent incident. Action against the student activist was delayed because of the coronavirus-induced national lockdown, they added.
