Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has paid a pending amount of over Rs 14 crore as property tax to the municipal corporation.
According to reports, the university had not paid the tax since 2005 towards the authorities. The property tax amount was levied on the library, classroom and lab in AMU which had not been paid till now.
The AMU officials, however, said that the libraries, classrooms and labs do not come under the purview of the property tax and that is why they were not paying it till now.
In January this year, the Aligarh Municipal Corporation had seized the bank account of AMU after the varsity failed to pay the property tax dues of over Rs 14 crores. The university, however, approached the Allahabad High Court in the case, which had stayed the freezing of the accounts.
