Maharajganj (Uttar Pradesh): Five women were electrocuted on Monday when they came in contact with a high tension wire while sowing paddy in a field in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh.
Superintendent of Police, Maharajganj, Rohit Singh Sajwan said that the incident took place at Sidhwari Tola in Pharenda tehsil.
"Laxmi (17), Radhika (18), Soni (18), Vandana (18) and Subhawati (45) were sowing paddy when they came in contact with the high tension wire," he said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the district magistrate to probe the incident and punish the guilty. He also announced financial assistance of Rs. 13 lakh to the family members of each of the deceased.
A statement issued by the UP government said that a committee has been constituted to probe the incident.
