Kannauj: Five children of the same family have reportedly fallen ill and later hospitalised after consuming Gujiya (sweet dumplings made of maida or flour and filled with Khoya and dry fruits mixture) in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district.
The siblings, aged between 1-10 years were rushed to a hospital after they started suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea. The victims were shifted to the Government Medical College, Kannauj after which they all were hospitalised in a serious condition.
The incident took place when the victims' father Kesharam, resident of Bhada village, purchased 'Khoya' from a local shop of the village after which the family made Gujiya out of it in their home.
As soon as the children consumed it, all of them started vomiting and their condition started deteriorating.
Chief Medical Superintendent of the Government Medical College, Kannauj Dr Dilip Singh said that the children were victims of food poisoning. "The health condition of the children has improved. However, they are being constantly monitored," Singh said.
