Woman 'kidnapped' by auto driver dies at hospital in Telangana's Khammam; family alleges rape and murder

The woman from Ramannakunta Tanda, Nekkonda Mandal, Warangal District had come to Khammam with her aunt to see a doctor, but was kidnapped by an auto driver.

Khammam: A woman allegedly kidnapped by an auto driver died at a hospital in Khammam district of Telangana last month with the family alleging rape and murder of the woman, police said. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. A police official said that the incident took place on Apr. 27.

On the said day, the married woman (45) from Ramannakunta Tanda, Nekkonda Mandal, Warangal District reached Khammam with her aunt to see a doctor. Both boarded an auto to go to a private hospital. On their way to the hospital, the aunt asked the auto driver to stop on the roadside in order to go to the toilet.

As the woman went to relieve herself, the auto driver kidnapped the married woman and fled from the spot. After searching for a while to no avail, the kidnapped woman's aunt went to her village and conveyed the matter to the family members. As it was already night, the relatives who reached Khammam tried to locate the victim but could not find her.

The family members alleged that they approached the police stations of Khanapuram Haveli in Khammam, but the Police didn't register the complaint and asked them to approach the concerned police station back home in Nekkonda Mandal. The family further alleged that hey went to Chennaraopet police station, but no complaint was lodged there as well.

On Tuesday, the family approached a former corporator in Khammam and visited the Second Town Police Station Khammam with a complaint into the matter. In the subsequent police investigation, police found that the kidnapped woman was admitted by the accused auto driver at the Khammam Hospital casualty with severe injuries on the head and chest on the 28th of last month at 10.30 am.

Police said that after admitting the woman at the hospital, the accused auto driver fled on the pretext of a hospital ticket for the woman. The victim died at 3.20 pm on the same day while undergoing treatment. As none of the relatives came to claim the body, the doctors informed the outpost police about the matter after which the body was shifted to the mortuary.

The body was identified by the relatives on Tuesday on the basis of pictures provided by the police. Police have registered a case of abduction and murder into the matter while further investigation is gong on.
