Hyderabad: In what appears to be a murder-suicide bid, a woman allegedly poisoned her two kids, before consuming it herself in Shamirpet near here on Wednesday. The two children died while the woman is in a critical condition.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Preethi, resorted to the extreme step following an argument with her husband Gopinath, who works as a junior acientist at a pharma company near Shamirpet.
Police said that the couple, who had been married for five years, were having frequent fights over the past few days. After a similar argument yesterday, when Gopinath left for work, Preethi allegedly poisoned her two sons - Gaurav (4) and Kaushik (3), before consuming the unknown poisonous substance herself at their residence in Majidpur, Shamirpet.
While the two boys died, Preethi is said to be in a critical condition and is currently availing treatment at a hospital.
Meanwhile, the Shamirpet Police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
The two bodies have been shifted to the Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.
