Telangana to receive heavy rains till October 22, says IMD

The flood situation has remained grim in Telangana due to the heavy rains that battered leaving a trail of destruction. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning is also very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana. An Orange alert - which means 'be prepared' - has also been issued for Hyderabad.

Telangana to receive heavy rains till October 22, says IMD

Hyderabad (Telangana): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rain over isolated places in Telangana.

"Thunderstorm accompanied with Lightning very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana. Heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana," the IMD said in a prediction valid for four days--from October 19 to October 22.

In another prediction for October 23, the weather agency predicted thunderstorm accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Telangana.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed officials to send speed boats to Hyderabad for rescue and relief operations in response to the Telangana government's request.

Notably, the state is experiencing extremely heavy rains for the past few weeks.

Many houses on the bank of River Musi have been submerged in floodwater flowing heavy downpour. Thirty cars and trucks were washed away when a lake in the city overflowed, district administrator Amoy Kumar said. The death toll rose to 70 while bodies of two more missing persons were found in the state capital on Monday.

According to the weatherman, heavy rain in Hyderabad, caused by a deep depression in Bay of Bengal, broke a record set 20 years ago. It caused flooding in low lying areas of the city, where authorities used boats to evacuate people.
