Hyderabad: The skeletal remains of a girl, missing since last month, were found in a dry well in a village in Telangana, three days after the body of another teenaged girl was recovered from the same spot, police said on Tuesday.

Amid suspicion that a serial killer could be behind the deaths of the two girls in Hajipur village of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, police said further investigations were on and the owner of the land in which the farm well was located, was being questioned.

The unearthing of the skeletal remains of the 18-year old girl triggered protests by a section of the residents of the village, who attacked and tried to set fire the house of the owner, Srinivas Reddy. They were dispersed, police said. On Friday last, the body of a 14-year-old girl was found in the well after police launched a search on a missing complaint by her father.

According to the postmortem report, the girl had been sexually assaulted before being killed. As the part of the investigation, a police team visited the crime scene on Monday and after a thorough search, they unearthed skeletal remains buried along with a bag which contained an ID card of a girl aged 18, police said.

It was later found she belonged to the same village and had gone missing around one and a half month ago. The remains were exhumed and sent for forensic examination, police said.

In the backdrop of the recoveries, family members of an 11-year old girl who has been missing since 2015 urged the police to take up further searches fearing she could have also met with a similar fate.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said a Sub-Inspector of Police has been suspended for "neglecting" crime prevention duty and an Assistant Commissioner of Police was now investigating the cases.

"Investigation in the two murder cases is going on in the right direction. We will detect the case and are collecting scientific evidence," he said.

THREE DEAD BODIES IN 4 DAYS

The body of a 14-year old missing girl named Sravani was found in a 50-feet deep well in Bommalaramaram area in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Saturday. In a shocking development... on Monday afternoon, the Rachakonda Police found another dead body of a teen girl, who was identified as Manisha and today another body was digged out of the same well and police are suspecting that it was Kalpana's body, a 6th class girl who went missing in 2015.

According to the police, Manisha, who also hailed from Hazipur and was pursuing degree, went missing for more than one month. She did not return home in the evening on the particular day after going to college in the morning. Police concluded that the body indeed belonged to Manisha based on the identity card available in her bag that was buried right beside her body.

As the police discovered the body of 14-year old Sravani two days back in an old well outside of Hazipur, the Rachakonda police, who have attached a great deal of importance to the case, also traced two bodies.

Police are verifying CCTV footage from Bommalaramaram to Hajipur . They are also checking the footage near the wine shops to identify the accused. With another 2 skeletons of girls coming to light in Hazipur, police are seeing a pattern in the way three murders are linked. The investigation by Rachakonda Police is in full swing. On the other hand, fear gripped Hazipur village with three bodies coming to light.
