Hyderabad (Telangana): Hyderabad Police has arrested a six-member gang of inter-state house burglars and recovered several items worth Rs 35 lakhs from their possessions.
Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, on Saturday said, "A six-member gang of inter-state house burglars was arrested on Friday. They were involved in 26 property offences."
The seized items include 23 motorcycles, gold ornaments ring, silver ornaments, a laptop and three mobile phones, Kumar added.
Prime accused Abdul Sameer (25) was previously involved in murder and robbery cases, police said. Wajeed, another accused in the case, is a Class 10 dropout and a native of Karnataka who shifted to Hyderabad for employment in 2019. He joined a private company and worked here for a few months.
The officer said that the accused Wajeed along with his associates used to take shelter at low rented lodges.
"For committing offences they select locked houses in the remote localities with a poor density of population on the outskirts of the city. During the day-time they take rest and in nights they move out on the roads and commit theft of locked bikes and ornaments from the locked houses," police said.
After committing the theft, the stolen bikes and property were sent to Bidar, Karimnagar and Nizamabad for disposal. "Some stolen bikes were also mortgaged to the needy people at low amounts from Rs 15,000 to 30,000 with the help of other accused. All offences have been committed within a span of one year," police added.
