Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) is all set to conduct online classes for foreign students in the view of COVID-19. A sizeable chunk of applications was received during the lockdown.
Students who got admissions in UG and PG courses will be taught virtually as soon as they reach the country like American universities.
Foreign travel was restricted due to COVID-19. A large number of foreign students visit the city's universities each year which seem infeasible this time due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. Among them, 70-80 per cent are interested in pursuing their studies at Osmania University.
The administration has decided to make admissions online for foreign students.
Applications are currently being processed online and admissions will be granted. The certifications will then be reviewed once the conditions are right and come straight to the varsity.
Admission will be revoked if found ineligible. The first semester will be conducted entirely online after the admission process.
The Center has allowed students who are already getting admission in the Study in India program to listen to the lessons online.
'‘Compared to the past, Osmania has received more applications from foreign students. We plan to offer online admissions and online teaching. Work is underway on how to carry out the program'', said Jasthi Ravikumar, US director of Osmania's foreign affairs division.
The varsity is currently working on how to conduct exams for students who have gone abroad as currently exams for final year students are being conducted.
The embassies of the respective countries are being consulted on the matter of conducting the examination there.
A large number of foreign students have applied to join UG and PG courses in Osmania for the current academic year.
Meanwhile 220 applications for admission to PG courses in the Study in India program, OU approved 114 applications. 140 people have applied for UG courses.
The examination process is underway. In addition, the Board of Cultural Relations of India (ICCR) has received over 1,100 direct applications.
250 students have applied directly for admission in UG courses on behalf of ICCR, 130 for PG and 70 for PhD.
