Marijuana worth Rs 9.28 cr seized from parts of Telangana

Telangana police seized a huge consignment of marijuana worth Rs 9.28 crore from many parts of the state. At least 12 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Hyderabad: Telangana police on Wednesday seized a huge consignment of marijuana from many parts of the state. According to police, the seized marijuana is worth Rs 9.28 crore in the international market. About 12 people have been taken into police custody. The seizures were made from Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

Police said that the first seizure was made in Bhadradri Kothagudem district during vehicle checking at Vidyanagar colony in Chunchupalle town. A total of five people were apprehended and taken into custody in connection with the incident.

"While inspecting two lorries loaded with fishes, we found nearly 3,653 kgs of ganja in the boxes. The seized marijuana is worth Rs 7,30,62,000 in the international market. The vehicles were heading to Hyderabad and Haryana from Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district," police said.

The arrested men have been identified as Kasle Venkatesh, Kasle Subhash, Prashanth, Nafees and Imran Khan. The second seizure was made in Khammam district where police recovered around 730 kgs of cannabis worth Rs 1,10,00,000. As many as seven people were taken into custody while two managed to escape.

Khammam CP Vishnu S Warrier informed that the arrested men belong to Uttar Pradesh and they have links with two people from Khammam. Police have also seized six vehicles during the seizure. A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway.
