Hyderabad (Telangana): Khairatabad Ganesh, the nation's tallest idol and synonymous with the 11-day festival in Hyderabad, was immersed in the Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of the city on Thursday.
The 61-feet-tall idol of Lord Ganesh was immersed amidst devotional chants and loud cheering from the thousands that thronged the lake to witness the spectacle.
The challenging task was accomplished thanks to coordinated efforts by the police and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Cranes with the latest computerized Automatic Release Device technology were used to lift the giant idol.
The idol was transported to the lake from its pandal on a 32-wheel trailer as part of an elaborate procession.
The Shoba Yatra (procession) also included artists depicting the state's cultural festival Bonalu and performances children on the trailer.
Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav committee had already ended darshan of the Ganesh idol on Wednesday night.
