Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation for the new secretariat and the new integrated Assembly complex here on Thursday.
Once the designs are finalised, some of the old buildings located in the existing secretariat complex will be demolished on the basis of requirement, officials said.
The "Bhumi puja" was performed at the D Block in the Secretariat complex situated near the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake.
The Telangana Cabinet has appointed a Group of Ministers headed by Road and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy for the construction of new secretariat and Assembly complexes.
The Cabinet had endorsed the final decision-making on the building designs to the Chief Minister.
The KCR government also indicated that the new secretariat which would come up in about four lakh square-feet would cost around Rs 400 crore.
The proposed new Legislature (Assembly) complex which will be coming up at Errum Manzil will house the Assembly, Council Halls, Central Halls, and is expected to cost around Rs 100 crore, sources indicated.

The Telangana government is in the process of identifying office space for accommodating staff during the construction of a new secretariat complex.
