Hyderabad: Telangana Municipal Minister K.T. Rama Rao says a modern method for garbage collection is going to be introduced in Hyderabad.
The city is set to get a new cleaning system. Autos, which were earlier collecting dry and wet garbage from colonies are going to be replaced by modern vehicles (compactors). The new compactors will collect garbage from colonies instead of autos.
In the first phase, 55 modern garbage vehicles were inaugurated by Telangana Municipal Minister K.T. Ramarao at the HMDA ground in Hyderabad. Manufactured by Ramky Enviro, these compactors can collect as much waste as 30 autos.
With the city distributing 44 lakh garbage baskets to houses, waste collection has increased from 3500 tons to 6000 tons.
Presently garbage collection is being managed by 2000 autos. In the coming days, 2,700 compactors will be available to the GHMC. There are also plans to open 90 more dump yards in the future.
The minister also inaugurated an evacuation centre at Sanjeevaiah Park. Decentralising evacuation centres is set to reduce the problem of distance from garbage collection points,
