Hyderabad: Telangana's Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday inspected rain-affected localities in the city and conducted a meeting with Mayor Rammohan and senior officials at the GHMC headquarters.
While discussing with the officials, Rao said," 80 special officers have been deployed in GHMC and neighbouring municipalities for taking up rescue and relief measures.
"It will be raining for the next three days. People are being alerted where there is a chance of flood. He said people inundated areas would be evacuated to safer areas. The dilapidated buildings would be demolished and all facilities would be provided to the victims in the rehabilitation centres," Rao said.
"This is the second-highest rainfall in the history of Hyderabad. Musi was flooded in 1908. GHMC has already received 80 per cent more rainfall. Heavy damage was caused by the cutting of three ponds in the GHMC area. Over the past week, 59 dilapidated buildings have been removed. A total of 70 deaths occurred in Telangana due to the deluge in which 33 people belong to GHMC region. Rs. 5 lakh financial assistance was provided to 29 deceased families," he added.
"Due to the heavy rains, Hyderabad has suffered an estimated loss of Rs 670 crore. Towards providing food, sanitation and relief camps, the government has already spent Rs 45 crore and another Rs 60 crore in restoring electricity, water pipes etc. We have sent a report to the Central Government on the damage caused by rains in Hyderabad and across the state. Hope the Central Government will respond positively," he further added.
